The struggle to read
Ginit found an empty seat in the train. It was a one n half hour journey to Thrissur. The train was sparsely occupied. ' Nice, can read a bit of A good girls guide to murder, in peace.' She thought and fished out the book from her bag. She was just one page in when she got a call from her daughter yesterday to help her with the toilet seat. She haven't gotten a chance to restart reading since. A solid hour n half on train would help her gain a good progress.
She got into a comfortable position leaning against the window with her legs on the seat and started reading. As soon as she started reading she started noticing the guy on the seat opposite to her talking on the phone is effecting her focus. She tried hard not to let it steal her focus. She was partially successful. She had done this many times. Just daybefore yesterday she was trying to finish the last few pages of Metamorphosis while her daughter was bubbling all sort of things and refused to either stay quite or move to another room. The sound did further slow down her already slow dyslexic reading phase. Yet somehow her ADHD brain could somehow on to most of the content just out of pure interest.
As Ginit managed to read through the second page she kept getting off track since the story was still building momentum and her brain has not yet gotten hooked. Suddenly someone started playing coco melon really aloud from a close by seat. The sound of the guy on the phone, the sound of the train and the coco melon song intermingled to create a pretty disturbing sound combination for Ginit that her head started to hurt. It was not just that she couldn't read she couldn't even exist in peace is such a horrible antimelodic sound ecosystem. She quickly found her headset and plugged it in to play some white noice. But to her utter disappointment the highpitched noises of coco melon pierced through the white noice. She tried brown noise with similar futile results. There is no way she can continue reading in such an environment. Ginit gave up the hope of reading all together and focused on just surviving the situation without too much damage to her peace. She typed in ghost band songs. Played then as loudly as she could. The metal rock did coverup most of the other sounds in her environment. She couldn't read with such loud music in her ears but atleast she could get some peace of mind. 'I'll read it another day .' She thought.
